Gaber Maderas, a successful family business founded in 1981, is one of the main sellers of solid wood from Argentina and also from other countries such as Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Canada, USA, Spain, Albania, Thailand, India, and Slovenia, of course.
Gaber Maderas is a company with more than 40 years of experience, with 13 employees, and it is managed by one of the partners, Marko Škulj, and the company's founder, Marjan Petkovšek. At the age of 81, Mr Petkovšek continues to work actively in the company together with his family, including his daughters Sonja and Marjana. The word Gaber refers to a tree that grows in Slovenia, precisely in Hotedršica, Marjan's birthplace. The company has maintained business relations with Slovenia for 30 years, importing beech, ash, maple, larch and teak from there, among others.
In addition to the marketing of high-quality solid wood, which is sold in Argentina, other Latin American countries and Slovenia, Gaber Maderas is also involved in the sale of veneers, panels, wood products and supplies for laying pavements, floors and performing carpentry work. The company is primarily aimed at construction professionals such as carpenters, furniture makers, shipbuilders, architects and decorators.
The tour of the company, where they sell more than 40 different types of wood, was led by Marjan and Marko, and was also attended by the president of SLOAR, Martin Križ. At the end of the visit, a pleasant feast followed with a conversation about the history of Gaber Maderas and the Petkovšek family and their beginnings in Argentina, and tasted some traditional Slovenian dishes, such as potica and flancati.
